MAX TOWN
I started bottle collecting when I was about eight years old. Before that I didn’t show much interest in old bottles and don’t remember a time I ever found a bottle during any of my hikes or adventures in the woods and deserts. The day I found a glass insulator is when it all started.
I was fascinated by the glass workings of the insulator and I started looking for more examples. As I was looking for insulators I started to find old bottles and they started to interest me as well. I didn’t know much about old bottles and artifacts until I started to research information about them. I liked to learn about where and when the bottles came from and their stories.

When I was 11 is when I really started exploring for bottles in a more organized way. I would research where old bottles might be and would go to those spots and dig. I soon had a whole book shelf full of bottles but I didn’t really know which ones were valuable. At that point it was more about how they looked so I had many that were not that old.
It wasn’t until I started going to older dumps in Park City and around my neighborhood that I started to find very old bottles. By the time I was twelve I had hundreds of old bottles like cork top medicine bottles, soda bottles and all sorts of others. In my long search for old glass there is one bottle I always look for, the Hutchinson bottle. I have never found one but would love to!

Before my bottle obsession I liked to look for other things during my hikes like old bones and antlers, rocks and crystals and really anything that caught my eye. If it fascinated me enough I would keep it. I only collect bottles now but that keeps me busy and I really enjoy it.
I am super excited to meet other people who like collecting bottles and look forward to being part of the Utah Collectors Club and going on bottle digs!
