JASON YANEZ
It's always nice to see young collectors becoming hooked on old stuff. Here is his story.
I’m a young collector in the game who loves to dig and collect Utah & early Western glass. Bottle collecting started at a young age for me, my grandpa would always take me out every week to nearby ghost towns to bottle dig/treasure hunt. I remember my first dig my grandpa took me on I pulled out a Ponds Extract, large chemical bottles, food bottles, and a couple of local saloon tokens. I guess you could say after that I was hooked!
So, stunned, we followed him up to his location and right off the bat I started pulling out bottles and a new chapter had begun in my digging career. It wasn't long after that, Ivan took me under his wing and began showing me the ropes on how to find outhouses using a probe. Ivan has been an excellent mentor and has taught me everything I know and has become a very close friend.

For many years after that, I would continue to go out and dig. Neither I nor my Grandpa was handy with a probe. I usually stuck to digging layer dumps and occasionally lucking out on a outhouse. One day while probing in one of the old ghost towns a fellow digger came over and said, "Hey, I've got a hole with bottles coming out. Would you like to come pull some out!"
(prior to this I had never spoken with him except for a time when he told us to make sure we were filling on our holes.) |
