David Kyte
I have been a collector since I can remember. My mom tells me that as a toddler, I would gather little rocks and arrange them in a collection. I bought my first metal detector in 1969. It was a real basic unit and you had to use a transistor radio with it to hear the signal.
Over the years and about 6 or 8 detectors later, I have amassed quite a collection of  coins, relics and western trade tokens. I am particularly proud of my  Utah/Nevada military relic collection!
In  recent years, I have spent quite a bit of time sifting, detecting and digging in  old dumps. I have a nice little collection of poison bottles and Utah/Western  Hutchinsons, most of which, I have dug. I have hunted in Utah quite a bit and in  surrounding states - Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming. I am still amazed at the amount of  stuff still being found out there!

This is a pistol flask made in the 1840s. It carried black powder and had a small compartment in the base for caps. These were commonly used by civilians and soldiers alike. Dug in an area near downtown Salt Lake.

One  of my favorite hunting partners and I searching an early coal
mining town in  Idaho near where I grew up. He looks for gophers, but sometimes, when he digs,  some of those bits of glass that come out  gets me to put the detector away and  grab a  shovel!
